ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Every action has an impact. But how to act in a way that would enable us to live in the ever-increasing balance with each other, the whole nature and ourselves? Our goal is to bring to GEN2018 conference “The Wisdom of Conscious Communities” all the practical knowledge and skills from as many eco-communities as possible. This would be a great enhancement towards more conscious and sustainable lifestyle worldwide and we can add also our own Estonian experience to this knowledge base.

Such sustainable lifestyle stands on four pillars: 1) holistic and conscious self-development of a human being; 2) open communication and conscious cooperation n; 3) fair economy and social entrepreneurship; 4) technologies that support the biodiversity and sustainable development of the ecosystems of the planet Earth.

People in different ecovillages all over the globe have practically explored various opportunities of changing the life of humanity in such way that it would put less stress on the environment and also could provide more support for the development of an individual human being and the community. Many of them have reached the conclusion that the change won’t happen or has no significant impact unless we address the change of our inner worlds first.

GEN2018 conference “The Wisdom of Conscious Communities” will focus on the knowledge and tools that support conscious development and practical application of awareness for exactly this reason.

“I became interested in ecovillages over 10 years ago, when I realized that we can’t endlessly protect the nature from people, but we need a new living model instead.”
Toomas Trapido
“The Ecovillages Movement connects the communities around the world and inspires individuals to fulfill their dreams, by showing that it is possible.”
Sven Aluste
“The Ecovillages Movement associates for me with innovation, care, awareness, responsibility and action. I am ready to share my experience, which I have gained from interacting with the European ecovillages during 5 years”
Aale-Triinu Sonn-Tambaur
“Community offers solutions to most dilemmas that humanity is facing today. Simplicity is the key and the proverb: “It takes a village to raise a child.” shows the direction.”
Tarvo Nurmeots

WHAT IS OUR INTENDED IMPACT?

We want to create an impulse to inspire conscious change and
increase the impact of sustainable solutions in four main areas:

Presentations, lectures, hands-on workshops.

We’ll create an inspiring and supportive environment for new ideas and initiatives, for learning and sharing, forging new friendships and finding like-minded partners.

THE VENUE

ESTONIA

Estonia is a small and innovative community with a potent cultural heritage and traditional wisdom. Being a small country, we can afford nation-wide testing of innovative ideas where others have no means to do so. This is one of the main reasons why we decided to include special Estonian day to our conference as a present to Estonian Republic for its 100th Anniversary.

This is a good chance to share good Estonian initiatives and locally developed innovative solutions that would enhance sustainable lifestyle. In the after-programme following the conference we will offer our guests a chance to visit the Estonian traditional and eco-communities.

LILLEORU

Lilleoru training centre has been designed and built with an aim to support conscious and holistic development of a human being. From the very beginning, practical application of awareness has been the key element in all of our activities. Kriya yoga teacher Ingvar Villido and a small group of his students initially established the centre in Lilleoru in 1993. Together the first houses were built and a permaculture garden and the Flower of Life Park were created.

“The Art of Conscious Change” techniques that we apply here have been developed by Ingvar Villido and have by today reached thousands of people in Estonia as well as abroad. In 2018 we will open a new School of Practical Awareness building that will be also the heart and the centre of GEN2018 conference “The Wisdom of Conscious Communities”.

ORGANISERS

Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) is an organisation that brings together various communities all around the globe, where innovation, traditional wisdom and local cultural inheritance are honoured. These are communities, where people are constantly making conscious choices towards more sustainable lifestyle. Around 10 000 communities from all over the world have joined GEN, including intentional communities, traditional villages and urban communities.

The activities of the Lilleoru NGO that was established in 2001 are based on conscious action and cooperation, with an aim to support conscious change and holistic growth of a human being. One of its major functions is to take care of the Lilleoru centre and its premises – study- and living areas, the Flower of Life Park and permaculture garden.

Our dream is to see Estonia becoming an eco-nation valuing its environment and supporting its people in personal development towards conscious, holistic and balanced human being. This is a process into which we desire to contribute our efforts.
