Steffen Emrich lives at gASTWERKe ecovillage in Germany. He was a member of the board of the Global Ecovillage Network Germany e.V. for the last four years and is a GEN-Europe representative at the GEN-International Board. He was co-leading the gen-Germany project “Urban resilience” and is local coordinator of the project “Living in sustainable villages” funded by the German Federal Environment Agency. Steffen studied geography and urban planning in Göttingen, Kassel (Germany) and Dublin (Ireland) and after a short careerer in urban and regional planing he started working as a development aid worker (focus on the Balkans and East and Central Africa) as well as a moderator, trainer and community fascilitator. In 2009, he co-founded the ‘gASTWERKe e.V.’ in Escherode – near Kassel – and lives there ever since – currently with 17 children and 25 adults (including his partner and his 2 children). He is a certified sociocracy teacher and gives regularly seminars in community education about topics such as decision-making, finding a vision, organisational development and sociocracy

Sociocracy is a new, socially responsible system of governance that originated in The Netherlands. It allows us to give and receive effective leadership while remaining peers.
This Workshop is an overview of the basic principles of Sociocracy where it can be experienced the difference between consensus and consent. Also, attendees will get an idea about an inclusive election and will experience Sociocratic Decision Making Process.
