Silke B. Oppermann
Student of the world
Initially a journalist who specialized on international politics and migration Silke reported from the United Nations in Geneva as well as from China, Aserbaidschan, the US and her native country Germany. Accidentally she switched to PR and marketing in a global corporation in Munich. After five years she quit in June 2016 to pack her backpack and explore today’s solutions for tomorrow’s world. Her trip led her through community projects including eco villages, permaculture and reforestation projects in Kenya and India as well as a coworking space for digital nomads in Thailand. She shared her experience on her blog www.studentoftheworld.de. Her aim is to connect inner and outer nature through writing. Currently she is working on her first book.
Nature writing stands in the long tradition of Anglo American writers like Henry David Thoreau and Ralf Waldo Emmerson. Recently bookshops saw a rise in modern nature writing literature. In this workshop we will sharpen our senses for the living world around us: who and what is here with us. How do the elements relate to each other and we to them? We will let the outer nature touch our inner nature and give way to the words that want to be written at that moment and share our writings afterwards.
We will use elements of permaculture, deep ecology and story telling. Everybody is encouraged to write in English. Writing in a language other than your own can open up new connections inside.
