Let’s Do It World
Eva Truuverk invites to World Cleanup Day on September 15, when people in 150 countries will stand up against the global trash problem and clean up waste, making it the biggest positive civic action the world has seen. Eva is one of the initiators and leaders of Let’s Do It!, a civic-led mass movement that began in Estonia in 2008 when 50,000 people united together to clean up the entire country in just five hours.
Estonia’s initiative – one state in one day – gained interest and curiosity in the whole world. So in 2012 Let’s Do It! was announced, bringing together 96 countries. Yet Let’s Do It! has never been only about cleaning up waste. It is a way of giving people back faith that together we can do something, that together we can do big things that change not only our home village, but the whole world.
A former entrepreneur and owner of several business companies Eva Truuverk has lead the Let’s Do It! movement from the beginning after she let one of the authors of the idea Rainer Nõlvak talk her into it. She admits that she is not dewy-eyed to assume that after September 15 the world is neat and tidy and that people who litter disappear in one day. But this day means something remarkable to the planet and the people living on it.
“The change happens when the whole world cleans up at the same time. The number of people engaged has to be as high as possible. Ideally 5% of the planet’s inhabitants, this means 380 million people. If we achieve this, the shift in minds will become a reality.”
